Plastics of the future: The environmentally friendly revolution

Sustainability is the most central part of Razeco's philosophy and our materials play a crucial role in this. But what does that actually mean when we say that our razors are bio-based and plastic-free? And how do our bio-based materials differ from fossil plastic? In this post, we'll go into the details that make our products so special.

The difference between our disposable and system razors

Our products differ in structure:

• disposable razor
  Apart from the stainless steel blades and spacers, our disposable razors are made entirely of a material that is 99% biobased. This material is made from renewable raw materials that are a waste product of other industries and has the TÜV Austria OK Biobased Certificate (4 stars).
• System razor
  The handle of our system razors is made of durable stainless steel. This material was deliberately chosen to ensure a theoretically unlimited lifespan. For the first time in the world, the replaceable cartridges are made from our 99% bio-based material, with the blades being made of stainless steel.

With these approaches, we want to give our customers the choice: long-lasting products with interchangeable elements or a sustainable disposable alternative.

Why bio-based materials are no compromises

One frequently voiced criticism of bio-based materials is the assumption that they are “just another type of plastic.” But it is precisely here that the details are actually important in all considerations, because they ultimately make the decisive difference:

• Source of raw materials
  Bio-based materials like the ones we use at Razeco are made from renewable raw materials, as opposed to fossil plastics, which are based on crude oil. This means that they conserve finite resources and actively contribute to reducing the consumption of fossil raw materials.
• Eco-friendly disposal
  While fossil plastics release significant amounts of CO₂ during disposal, our bio-based material causes thermal recycling — the standard in Germany — 99% less CO₂ emissions. This makes it a sustainable, environmentally friendly alternative to fossil plastic products.
• TÜV-certified safety
  Our material has been extensively tested and has the OK Biobased certificate from TÜV Austria, the standard for certifying sustainable products. This seal guarantees that what's on it is really in it.

Biodegradable — but not synonymous with “without hesitation”

In principle, our biobased material is biodegradable. But unlike many manufacturers, we deliberately do not emphasize this point. Why Because biodegradability does not mean that products can be safely disposed of in nature.

It is important to dispose of bio-based products correctly to protect the environment. Biodegradability is a good feature, but it should never be understood as an invitation to carelessly throw things away.
