Shaving without gender marketing
At Razeco, we believe that shaving products should not be differentiated by gender. That is why we refrain from gender marketing and the so-called “pink tax”, which often means unnecessarily high prices for women's products (in 2023 they were just under 38% higher) for the same content. Instead, we focus on quality and fairness for everyone.
Why gender marketing is superfluous
The shaving industry loves to divide products into “masculine” and “feminine” — usually with a few clever but ultimately meaningless extras. This dual marketing pattern alludes to stereotypical gender roles: women are suggested that they should take care of themselves and emphasize their beauty, while men are encouraged to use practical, powerful tools that symbolize efficiency and strength.
- Masculine power: Razors for men often come in a particularly masculine design and sound extremely strong with terms such as “power” or “turbo.” This is to make us believe that these razors shave better — and every razor that hasn't lost its blade does.
- Delicate femininity: Women's razors, on the other hand, are often in pink or other pastel shades, sometimes with floral scents and ergonomic handles for “the slim woman's hand.” Sounds nice, but it usually doesn't bring more than pretty packaging.
- The gel strip trick: Many razors, especially those for women, have these gel strips, which are said to provide a gentler shave. The truth? These strips often contain microplastic, which not only harms the environment but can also irritate your skin.
